‘45rpm’ is a short black and white video work. The work presents images of a spinning zoetrope. Inside the zoetrope are images of the artist repeatedly raising her hand to her forehead. This gesture is derived from an earlier video work (‘Faint’, 1999) which showed the artist repeatedly fainting. The zoetrope, created in the artist’s studio, revolves on a record player turntable hence the title ‘45rpm’. The artist’s interest in illusion and the creation of the moving image is further explored in this work. Video transitions are used in the editing; echoing and contrasting the lines and movements created by the spinning zoetrope.
